If you’re looking for an easy fix for overusing your curling wand, this heatless curling technique might be something worth trying. We’ve seen many different heatless curling tools on the market and thought I’d share a few options that will do the trick on a budget.

If you have a satin scarf kicking around your closet, it makes for a great curling tool. I like using this on freshly washed and air-dried hair.

Prepare the hair by lightly misting Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray on to dry hair.

Roll your scarf length wise and secure it to the top of your head with a bobby pin.

Separate the hair into two sections — like pigtails — then start wrapping small sections of the hair away from the face and around the scarf like a braid, adding a little more hair as you go. The tighter you wrap the hair, the curlier your hair will be. I prefer a looser wave and grab larger sections with a looser wrap.

Secure the ends with a hair elastic and repeat this technique on the other side.

I let my hair set for roughly 10 minutes. For a bouncier curl, I suggest keep the hair wrapped overnight.

Heatless flexible curling rods have been around for many years. I sourced some at the dollar store and they are also available on amazon. I find these are easier to work with on damp hair but just as well on dry hair.

Prep the hair by misting Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray on damp hair from root to end.

Sectioned off the front face-framing pieces first and started wrapping them around the rod (away from the face) at roughly two inches from the root, leaving the ends out. Twist the ends of the rod to secure it in place. This offers more of a modern bend rather than a tight curl.

Repeat this technique using a total of 4-to-6 rods around the head.

Let the hair set for 30 minutes until the hair is completely dry.

To complete the look, I used Davines This is a Texture Spray, a hairspray for texture and definition.
